Coinbase Stocks lets you buy and hold real US-listed stocks and ETFs inside the Coinbase app. The brokerage service is provided by Coinbase Capital Markets Corp, a US broker-dealer registered with the SEC and FINRA. Apex Clearing Corporation executes, clears, and custodies the securities. It carries your account and holds the shares for you. You hold real US shares as their beneficial owner. Your account is opened in your own name at Apex on a fully-disclosed basis, with full dividend and voting rights.

⚠ The broker-dealer is in the Coinbase group. You trade through Coinbase Capital Markets Corp, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coinbase Global, Inc. That is the same group that runs the Coinbase exchange.

✓ Clearing and custody are independent; product lines are separate. The clearing and custody broker Apex Clearing Corporation is independent of the Coinbase group. Apex is a SIPC member. If Apex fails and customer assets are missing, SIPC covers securities and cash in member customer accounts up to $500,000, including a $250,000 cash limit.

Apex carries your account in your own name, so SIPC reaches you directly. Shares lent through Apex's opt-in fully-paid securities-lending program fall outside SIPC while on loan; see Funding and exit. SIPC covers the failure of the carrying broker and missing customer assets, not market moves on your shares. Digital assets and cash held in a Coinbase, Inc. account sit outside the brokerage account and under a separate regime.

Funding and exit

Fund with: USD or USDC from your Coinbase cash balance, or a bank transfer. USDC is converted to USD before a stock purchase, and trades settle in USD.
Sell: at any time during trading hours; proceeds return to cash in your brokerage balance.
Transfer out: whole shares move to another brokerage through ACATS, initiated from the receiving firm. Fractional shares cannot move by ACATS and are sold to their settled cash value on a full transfer out. After a full transfer the account may stay restricted while residual dividends and corporate actions sweep to the receiving firm.
Lend (FPSL): Apex's fully-paid securities lending program is opt-in for eligible CCM customers who accept Apex's Master Securities Lending Agreement. Shares are not lent by default. While on loan, voting rights pass to the borrower and loaned securities may fall outside SIPC. You earn a loan fee as a percentage of net proceeds, and CCM splits the remainder with Apex.
