Crypto exchanges traded $211 billion of stocks in a week. Four fifths was semiconductors
The record week came in the middle of a memory crash: Sandisk fell 56% from its June high while volume set records, and the exchanges now run perpetuals on the 2x leveraged ETFs of the same names.
Stock and ETF perpetuals traded $211 billion across the crypto exchanges we
track in the seven days through July 31, the biggest week on record.
Semiconductor names carried $172 billion of it, 82% of the total. Sandisk
alone traded $54 billion.
Three companies are 60% of the volume
Three companies accounted for $126 billion of the week: Sandisk, SK Hynix,
and Micron, the memory makers at the center of the AI build-out.

The spot stock tokens trade the same names: Sandisk, Micron, SK Hynix, and
SOXL were 60% of the $500 million those tokens traded over 24 hours.
Only Bitcoin and Ethereum out-trade Sandisk on Binance
Binance's own futures rankings put Sandisk's contract third on the whole
exchange, at $7.0 billion in 24 hours. Six of the ten biggest contracts
reference stocks or ETFs, and five of those six are chip trades.

times the biggest Bitcoin contract. Stock and ETF contracts were 41% of
everything Binance futures traded.
The records were set into a crash
The week's records printed on the way down. Sandisk closed at $2,335 on June
25. On July 29, the record day, it closed at $1,016, down 56% in five weeks.
Micron and SK Hynix fell by about a quarter over the same stretch.
The five biggest stock-perp days on record all landed in that single week,
topped by $52 billion on July 29.

Longs on Sandisk's Binance contract paid an annualized 82% on the day the
stock made its lows. Then funding flipped negative, and shorts paid through
Friday.
Leveraged ETFs are trending on the crypto exchanges
The boom has a second story inside it: the leveraged funds built on the same
names. Perps on SOXL, a 3x semiconductor ETF, traded $20.3 billion over the
week. The newest listings go further, with perpetual contracts on leveraged
single-stock ETFs of the memory names themselves. Binance listed a perp on
SNXX, Tradr's 2x Sandisk ETF, in early July; it traded $4.6 billion for the
week, $1.1 billion of that on Binance on July 31 alone. Perps on
Direxion's 2x Micron fund
and its 3x South Korea fund trade alongside. The Korea fund's contracts
cleared $11 billion in the week. A position in any of them is exchange
leverage on a fund that already resets its own leverage every day.
